When reports of a putrid smell oozing out of an old mine shaft in the Cambrian hills’ ‘green desert’ of Wales turns out to be a corpse, DCI Evan Warlow and his team quickly slip into gear.

With the team stretched and suffering the consequences of misspent youth, and a dangerous root vegetable, Evan has his work cut out in sorting out the team’s woes and unravelling a web of manipulation and lies.

Yet there is more than one victim here. And unless he can find a way to the truth and quickly, someone else is going to fall foul.
